Lidl sets goal of 2,000 French stores by 2035

Lidl France aims to expand from 1,630 outlets to 2,000 by 2035, implying around 380 openings over eight to nine years. The retailer outlined the target to real estate partners, saying it wants to be within 10 minutes of 100% of the French population, versus 82% currently. Lidl said growth would come from organic openings and acquisitions of existing retail space. By end-May 2026, nine former Auchan supermarkets will have been converted, from around 20 acquired sites.
