Asda annual loss balloons to almost GBP1 billion

Asda’s pre-tax loss widened 65% to GBP989 million in 2025 as the supermarket invested heavily in price cuts to regain shoppers. Sales fell 3.4% to GBP25.9 billion, while LFL sales excluding fuel declined 3.1%. Results were hit by GBP656 million of one-off costs, including GBP284 million linked to its IT separation from Walmart. Executive chairman Allan Leighton said the turnaround plan remained on track despite pressure on profitability. (Sky News)
