Kroger to acquire Giant Eagle for USD1.65 billion
Kroger has agreed to acquire family-owned food and pharmacy retailer Giant Eagle for USD1.65 billion, comprising USD1.25 billion in cash and the assumption of around USD400 million in liabilities. Giant Eagle generates about USD9 billion in annual sales and operates 197 supermarkets and 11 standalone pharmacies across five US states. Kroger said it and expects limited outlet divestments to secure regulatory approval. (Kroger)
