UK discounter Lidl GB is expanding evening surplus-food collections with Neighbourly and Olio from 20 to nearly 200 outlets after a trial prevented around 1,200kg of waste weekly. Olio volunteers collect fresh, chilled and bakery products when charities cannot, redistributing them free locally. Lidl plans nationwide rollout by year-end, when the scheme could redistribute 5,000 tonnes annually, equivalent to 11.9 million meals. (Lidl GB)
